Stavros Floros almost lost his leg in Survivor Greece
Stavros Floros, a 21-year-old contestant of Survivor Greece, has lost a part of his leg after being involved in a spearfishing accident. Floros was in the waters off Saona Island in the Dominican Republic during a break from filming. The incident occurred while she was there.
AcunMedya, the show’s production company, gave a statement to Toronto Sun, calling this a “serious accident.” The statement continued, “We consider it necessary to clarify the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred. According to the information available so far, the accident appears to have happened when a tourist boat injured the contestant while he was spearfishing outside the competitive process of the reality show.”
The statement added that immediate aid was provided to Floros. It mentions that local authorities are “investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances.”
According to authorities, Floros was struck by the boat’s outboard engine propellers, resulting in partial amputation of his left leg. Since then, reports have confirmed that Floros is out of danger and has regained consciousness.
As a result of this accident, SKAI Television, the Greek television station that airs the show, has suspended broadcasts of the series until further notice. “Despite the fact that the production of Survivor is carried out exclusively under the control and responsibility of AcunMedya, SKAI is closely monitoring developments on the participant’s health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment, as well as to any hospitalization and rehabilitation care that may be required,” SKAI said in a statement (via eKathimerini).
