“Am I supposed to just forget everything he ever did to us?” Icon Film Distr. has revealed the first official UK trailer for an indie drama titled & Sons, out in the UK starting in August. The film originally premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last year (and also played at the London Film Fest) and is adapted from the book also titled “& Sons” written by David Gilbert. A world-renowned but reclusive novelist, convinced he is about to die, summons his estranged sons to his home. Instead of seeking forgiveness for his countless mistakes, he reveals a truly unbelievable secret that also brings his beloved ex-wife back into his orbit. With decades of resentment, jealousy & rage on the verge of spilling over, this splintered family is forced to face an inevitable reckoning, for better or worse. This star-studded, darkly comedic drama is led by “spellbinding performances” from Bill Nighy as the elderly Andrew Dyer and Imelda Staunton as his ex-wife Isabel. Along with George MacKay, Dominic West, Johnny Flynn, and rising star Noah Jupe, plus Arthur Conti, Anna Geislerová, & Pamela Shaw. A peculiar tale of an old man deciding to finally tell the truth.

Intro from TIFF: “It’s been 20 years since Andrew Dyer (starring Bill Nighy) has written a word — or left the house. In those 2 decades, he fathered a child outside his marriage, lost his long-suffering wife (Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton), and has been mostly estranged from his other sons. Following the death of an old friend, Andrew’s sense of his own mortality surges — exacerbated by his alcoholism — so he decides to bring together all his offspring for the first, and likely last time. Elder brothers Richard (Johnny Flynn) and Jamie (George MacKay) reluctantly return home despite old resentments, believing their father wants to soothe his conscience by making amends [with the whole family]. Instead, their father reveals a secret regarding their half brother Andy Jr. (Noah Jupe) that rewrites their family history in a surprising way.“
& Sons is directed by Argentinian producer / filmmaker Pablo Trapero, director of the films Crane World, Rolling Family, Born & Bred, Leonera, Carancho, White Elephant, The Clan, and The Quietude previously, plus the series “Echo 3” and “ZeroZeroZero”, and many shorts. The screenplay is written by Sarah Polley and Pablo Trapero. Adapted from the novel of the same name by David Gilbert. It’s produced by Phin Glynn, Axel Kuschevatzky, Cindy Teperman, Christina Piovesan, Emily Kulasa, Trudie Styler, Celine Rattray, Jackie Donohoe, Pablo Trapero. This initially premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last year. Icon Film will debut Trapero’s & Sons film in UK cinemas starting August 21st, 2026 coming soon. No US release is set.
