Vishwatma didn’t do that well?
Vishwatma came after Tridev and it was very successful. Let me tell you, Subhash, it was more successful than Tridev, and I’m saying this on record. But people didn’t think so. The press didn’t think so. The critics didn’t think so. And my dad — the celebrated producer Gulshan Rai — kept telling me, “No, no, no. Vishwatma is more successful.” He said, “You’re getting upset for no reason.”

And he was right?
Absolutely. Today, people tell me that whenever it comes on TV, OTT or satellite, Vishwatma is my best film. And I tell you, Subhash — you’re in Bihar — ask any Bihari filmgoer this question: Tridev, Vishwatma, Mohra or Gupt — which is your favourite? I can lay a bet he’ll say Vishwatma. I’m laying a bet with you. So I will not bring Vishwatma down. But the press brought it down. The audience didn’t. It has always been a favourite, especially on satellite.

And of course, Saat Samundar Paar?
And Saat Samundar Paar I mean, that song is number one even today. So I wouldn’t bring that film down. But yes, I don’t speak too much about it because people think I’m lying, or that I’m trying to inflate the face value of a film that supposedly didn’t do well — that it was an average film which is not true at all.

It was actually the biggest money-spinner among Trimurti Films. And if my father were alive today, he would tell you the truth.
