Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has weighed in enthusiastically on one of the year’s most anticipated box-office confrontations: the March 19, 2026 clash between Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 and Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Taking to his social media platform X, Varma coined the term “#Dhuroxic” to describe the head-to-head release and shared his perspective on how the two films represent contrasting cinematic styles.

Dhuroxic Judgement Day: Ram Gopal Varma frames Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic as ultimate cinema clash
Both films are scheduled to open in theatres on March 19, 2026, coinciding with a festive weekend that includes Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, and Eid. The simultaneous release confirms a marquee box-office face-off reminiscent of major multi-film clashes, drawing attention from industry observers and audiences alike.
In his post, Varma described Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic as representing two distinct cinematic approaches. “#Dhuroxic on March 19th will be the ultimate clash between ultra-realistic cinema and ultra-unrealistic cinema,” he wrote, positioning the sequel as grounded in cause and consequence, while suggesting that Toxic prioritises style and spectacle.
Varma elaborated on these differences, contrasting how violence and character motivation are treated in the two films. He wrote that Dhurandhar 2 reveals “that violence has moral, psychological, and political foundations. The characters act because they must, not because they will look cool.” In contrast, he characterised Toxic by “style precedes logic,” suggesting that the latter’s visual style serves to impress rather than to support narrative depth.
The filmmaker also raised pointed questions about established tropes in commercial cinema. “Will the Dhurandhar audience go back to still root for the same dark hero walking in slow motion? Will smoking in slow motion still equal depth of character?” he wrote. Varma described watching Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic back-to-back as being “inside a war zone versus next to a fashion shoot,” framing the encounter as both a stylistic and philosophical contrast.

Varma’s post concluded with a broader reflection on audience preferences and the potential implications of the clash. “#Dhuroxic can be a defining moment in cinema where the audience stop becoming devotees, and scoff at bulletproof masculinity, proving that they no longer want gods, but only relatable humans OR IT CAN BE VICE VERSA,” he said, dubbing March 19 a “#Dhuroxic JUDGEMENT DAY.”
The box-office duel comes amid continued strong performance by the Dhurandhar franchise.
