EXCLUSIVE: Madhuri Dixit candidly discusses her kids’ reactions to her iconic roles: “They saw my song ‘Kay Sera Sera’ and they thought…”
Do Madhuri’s Kids Watch Her Films?
When asked if her sons watch her movies, Madhuri explained that it wasn’t something that happened often at home. “I get it people ask me that, but I’m sure in any of the film family, they don’t sit and watch their own movies.” She shared that her children began watching more of her work only after going to college, influenced by their friends. She said, “Well, no my kids are watching more once they were in college, because of their friends, they watch more of my movies than they have ever when they were at home. So, they have seen, I think Devdas they watched, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and then they watched Hum Aapke Hai Koun, they saw my song ‘Kay Sera Sera’ and they thought I was very cool, so now they are discovering more of me.”
Her sons, now older, are slowly discovering her iconic performances and enjoying her legacy through their peers.
Madhuri on Playing a Layered Character in Mrs. Deshpande
Madhuri also discussed her intriguing role in Mrs. Deshpande, describing why the character stood out for her and what viewers can expect.
“I hope people will like this, because it’s very different, it’s very challenging for me, and I loved playing Mrs. Deshpande. She has so many layers, it’s not that she’s shouting and screaming, she’s very calm, very composed and yet you just know that you can’t trust her. When you are with her, there’s something always up her sleeve, and she’s always thinking of so many different things. Though she might look like an ordinary housewife, but there is so much more to her than that. So, I think that aspect has been brought of very beautifully.”
Her portrayal promises complexity, subtlety, and intrigue—elements that add depth to the upcoming series.
What Genre Does Madhuri Enjoy the Most?
When asked about her preferred genre, Madhuri revealed that her tastes are diverse and shaped by what she watches with her family.
“Well, we watch action films, with the kids it’s always something or the other film. I love to watch crime dramas, crime thrillers, then I like to watch very emotional kind of movies which are smaller films. They might be little slow, but I like to watch those films as well.” She added that she doesn’t limit herself to one category. She said, “I think my genre is a lot, like it’s not that I like one particular thing, but there’s the whole library of kind of genres that I like. Like family, or emotional or crime thriller, the only thing I don’t watch is horror. Because I get spooked. I did 100 Days, which was not such a horror film, then I did Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. I watched Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, because I was there, and I know it’s all special effects and everything but still I get little spooked.”
She also shared her husband’s preferences and the genres they enjoy together. She added, “My husband likes either thriller, political thriller and action. I love sci-fi too and my husband loves it too, like very futuristic kind of films, that’s the genre.”
