Hema Malini has addressed the reasons behind hosting separate prayer meets following the passing of her husband, legendary actor Dharmendra. Her clarification comes amid discussions around multiple prayer meetings being organised on the same day — one in Mumbai by Dharmendra’s first wife Prakash Kaur and their sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and others by Hema Malini in the city and also in Delhi, later.

Hema Malini breaks silence on separate prayer meets for Dharmendra; says “Yeh humare ghar ka personal mamla hai”
Speaking to Times of India, Hema Malini emphasised that the decision was a personal one and taken after mutual understanding within the family. She said, “Yeh humare ghar ka personal mamla hai. We talked to each other. I kept one prayer meet at my home because my group of people are different. Then, I kept one in Delhi because I am in politics, and it was important for me to keep a prayer meeting there for my friends from that field. Mathura is my constituency, and the people there are mad about him. So, I kept a prayer meeting there as well. I am happy with what I did.”
The prayer meet organised by Sunny and Bobby Deol in Mumbai saw the presence of several prominent film personalities, including Salman Khan, Vidya Balan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among others. Meanwhile, the prayer meet held in Delhi witnessed attendance from well-known figures from the political sphere, reflecting Hema Malini’s long-standing association with public life beyond cinema.
Hema Malini also spoke about the emotional toll of Dharmendra’s sudden demise, especially as the family was preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday. She shared, “His birthday was coming up on December 8, when he was turning 90, and we were thinking of celebrating it nicely. The preparations were on, and then suddenly, he was not there. To personally see him sink was very difficult. Nobody should have to go through this kind of situation.”
Despite the loss, the veteran actress has asserted that she intends to resume her routine, including political responsibilities and performances. According to her, continuing to stay active is what Dharmendra would have wanted, and she believes it is her way of honouring his memory.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89 in Mumbai, marking the end of an era in Indian cinema. The iconic actor died due to age-related ailments following a brief illness. He had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 after complaining of breathlessness and remained under medical observation for nearly two weeks. After being discharged in mid-November, he was recuperating at his Juhu residence when he breathed his last at home.
