Ira Khan, daughter of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, once again chose openness as she spoke about her ongoing struggles with body image and self-worth. In a candid Instagram post and accompanying video, Ira shared that she had been dealing with issues related to how she viewed her body since 2020, admitting that discussing this topic felt more daunting than her earlier revelations about depression.

Ira Khan opens up on body image and self-acceptance: “Unlike depression, this feels a little scary”
Addressing what she referred to as “the elephant in the room,” Ira explained that over the past few years, she had oscillated between feeling unfit, overweight, and obese, while trying to better understand her relationship with food and her body. She clarified that she did not have a diagnosed eating disorder and was not speaking as an expert, but felt it was important to begin the conversation publicly after noticing a small yet meaningful shift in her mindset.
In her post, Ira wrote, “Yes, I’m fat. Been oscillating between thinking I’m fat/unfit, becoming overweight and being obese since 2020. There’s a lot to be said about it. Definitely things I still need to figure out. But I feel at least a small shift for the better, so I’ve decided to start talking about it/share. I may not be as articulate or confident as when I spoke about my depression. Unlike like that, this feels a little scary. But I really think it needs to be talked about. I don’t have a diagnosed eating disorder, and I’m also not an expert. Just sharing my experiences. Venture into the comment section at your own risk. I know I will be staying far away from it. Let’s see how this goes.”
In the video shared alongside the post, Ira acknowledged that she was obese for her age and height and had been grappling with body image concerns and her relationship with food for several years. She shared that these struggles had affected various aspects of her life, including her confidence, self-worth, work, friendships, and her relationship with her husband, Nupur Shikhare, whom she fondly referred to as Popeye.
Ira also admitted that, unlike her earlier conversations around mental health, she felt less confident speaking about body image. She explained that these issues had interfered with her life in ways she found comparable in intensity to depression, a subject she had previously discussed in detail. Through these posts, Ira said she hoped to unpack her thoughts, fears, and patterns, primarily as part of her own healing process, while also encouraging more open conversations around body image and mental health.
She cautioned viewers about online reactions, advising people to approach the comment section carefully. Ira made it clear that her intention was not to seek validation, but to help normalise difficult and often uncomfortable conversations around self-acceptance and mental well-being.
Ira Khan has earlier spoken openly about her long battle with clinical depression, including the guilt she once felt for struggling despite coming from a privileged background. Her latest disclosure continued that pattern of honesty and vulnerability, reinforcing her belief that conversations around mental health and self-worth, no matter how uncomfortable, were both important and necessary.
