During an appearance on The Manyavar Shaadi Show, National Award-winning filmmaker Karan Johar revealed that Shah Rukh Khan is extremely particular about the fit of jeans. According to Johar, SRK has a strong opinion when it comes to denims and can even judge people based on how well their jeans fit.

“He has an OCD about the fit of jeans,” Karan said on the show. He added with humour that Shah Rukh can instantly notice badly fitted jeans and may even assume something about the person wearing them.

Recalling personal experiences, Karan shared that every time he visited Shah Rukh Khan’s residence, Mannat, he felt conscious of his outfit choices. He mentioned that SRK would often notice his jeans and ask pointed questions about where they were from, leaving him slightly nervous despite their close friendship.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Jeans Obsession Has a DDLJ Connection

Karan Johar further explained that Shah Rukh Khan’s fixation with well-fitted denims dates back to their first meeting on the sets of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1994. At the time, Karan was working as an assistant director and was responsible for Shah Rukh’s costumes.

Looking at SRK’s physique, Karan suggested switching to a different brand of jeans that he felt would suit him better. However, the brand was not easily available in India at the time. Despite this, Karan made significant efforts to source it and tried convincing Shah Rukh with detailed reasoning.

Initially, Shah Rukh Khan was surprised by the suggestion and questioned why a young assistant director was advising him on his clothing. He even turned to Aditya Chopra for clarification, who reportedly explained Karan’s fashion sensibilities by mentioning his South Bombay background.

Karan concluded that ever since that experience, Shah Rukh Khan developed a strong and lasting opinion about denim and the importance of the right fit—something that has clearly stayed with him over the years.

This light-hearted revelation once again highlighted the warm bond between Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, while giving fans a glimpse into the superstar’s attention to detail, even when it comes to something as simple as a pair of jeans.
