At the Bollywood Hungama India Entertainment Awards 2025, what began as a celebratory moment for Maniesh Paul quickly transformed into a heartfelt tribute that left the audience deeply moved. The actor-host, honoured with the Most Iconic Supporting Actor award, dedicated the win to the late Bollywood legend Dharmendra — recalling a memory that has stayed with him for more than two decades.

Maniesh Paul breaks down on stage, dedicates his Bollywood Hungama award to late Dharmendra with an unforgettable memory
When Maniesh stepped up to receive his trophy, he paused to share an emotional story from his early years, long before success found him. “Twenty years back, mere mama bade dare hue the ki Mumbai ja raha hai, kisiko nahin jaanta (my uncle was afraid that I was going to Mumbai and I knew no one),” he revealed, reflecting on the uncertainty and fear that clouded his journey to Mumbai. His mother, however, carried unwavering faith. As he shared on stage, she told him, “Koi nahin, ghabrana mat, wahan jaake koi bhi dikkat ho to Dharmendra Ji k paas chale jana. Khane ki koi dikkat ho to Dharmendra ji ke waha chale jana (Don’t worry, if you go there and still face any challenges, go to Dharmendra ji, if you face any hunger issues, you can go to him).”
That sense of comfort and protection became real when Maniesh eventually met Dharmendra. Recalling the moment with visible emotion, he said, “Jahan ka paani peeta hai, tu raaj karega.” For Maniesh, this was far more than a kind blessing — it became a source of hope that guided him through years of struggle. “This award is a small tribute to him,” he said, adding, “I will remember him every single day — but with a smile,” emphasising that Dharmendra’s legacy will always be celebrated by the industry.
For Maniesh Paul, this tribute came not from a place of professional gratitude, but from a deeply personal space. His journey, shaped by humble beginnings and years of perseverance, found its early anchor in the warmth Dharmendra extended to him — a gesture he continues to treasure.
The emotional moment unfolded as the film fraternity is still mourning the legendary actor’s passing on November 24, 2025. With a career spanning six decades and more than 300 films, Dharmendra’s impact on Hindi cinema is immeasurable. As tributes continue to pour in, Maniesh Paul’s heartfelt remembrance stands out as a reminder of the late star’s humanity — a kindness that touched lives far beyond the screen.
