Athlete-turned-actor Ruhi Singh recently took a meaningful step towards championing inclusivity and empowerment by joining hands with the Blind Women’s Cricket Team of Maharashtra. The initiative aims to support visually impaired athletes, nurture their sporting talent, and promote equal opportunities, while also working closely with an NGO dedicated to their education, rehabilitation, and employment.

Ruhi has been closely associated with MNB Jogeshwari, a well-run institution known for its exceptional work in supporting the blind community. She was invited to attend a special event organized in collaboration with the Blind Graduates Forum of India (BGFI), where she interacted with inspiring individuals who have overcome challenges to build successful professional careers.

“I was happy and honoured to attend the event and support them,” Ruhi shared. “I met incredible people who have completed their graduation and are now working as lawyers, chartered accountants, and HR professionals. It truly shows that nothing is a weakness.”

The event featured a vibrant cultural showcase, including dance and singing performances, along with debate and poetry competitions. Ruhi described the experience as deeply memorable, witnessing first-hand the remarkable talent, confidence, and enthusiasm of the participants.

The sporting highlight of the day was organized by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), where shortlisted players were preparing for national-level tournaments, with many eventually representing India internationally. Being an athlete herself, having played basketball and other sports, Ruhi felt a strong connection with the cricketers.

Adding a personal touch to her involvement, Ruhi even stepped onto the field to play cricket with the team. Blindfolded to experience the game from their perspective, she was left amazed by their skill and heightened hearing ability. “They can sense the ball and hit it perfectly. It was an eye-opening experience,” she said.

Emphasizing that her support goes beyond financial aid, Ruhi Singh stated, “It’s not about money; it’s about showing love, support, and having a heart.” She expressed her eagerness to remain associated with the cause and continue advocating for inclusivity, encouragement, and recognition of extraordinary talent within the visually impaired community.
