Question mark hangs over Malayalam actor Dileep’s release Bha Bha Bha

The court has acquitted the actor in an actress’ sexual assault case. But the Malayali public has not. The fury and outrage over what is being seen as a travesty of justice, is widespread. Many organizations in Kerala have called for a boycott of Bha Bha Bha.

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra feels the rules regarding the supposed travesty of justice are different for different celebrities. “Sanjay Dutt was forgiven for his alleged crime (he was booked under the very serious TADA laws) while Shiney Ahuja accused of raping his househelp was not forgiven. No one wanted to sign Shiney, although the courts acquitted him. In the West everyone is treated the same. The great actor Kevin Spacey is homeless after accusations of sexual violation. Harvey Weinstein’s life and career were destroyed when many women came forward to accuse him of asking for sexual favours.”
