The 56th International Film Festival of India acknowledged an important milestone in Indian cinema by honouring veteran actor Shri Rajinikanth for completing 50 years in the film industry. Fondly known as Thalaivar, Rajinikanth has engaged audiences for decades with his screen presence, style, and memorable performances.

50 Years in Cinema: Rajnikanth says, “Even if I have 100 births, I want to be born as Rajnikanth”
The felicitation, held during the Closing Ceremony, acknowledged Shri Rajinikanth’s long-standing contribution to Indian cinema across Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada films. With over 170 films to his name, the actor has made a significant impact on popular culture and has been honoured with awards such as the Padma Bhushan (2000), Padma Vibhushan (2016), and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2020).
Shri Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, honoured Shri Rajinikanth by presenting him with a shawl and memento. The ceremony was attended by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and actor Shri Ranveer Singh.
Receiving the honour, Shri Rajnikanth expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the central government. He added that looking back, 50 years feels like 10 or 15 years, because he loves cinema and acting. “Even if there are 100 births, I would like to be born as Rajnikanth,” said the superstar.
Through this celebration, IFFI 2025 acknowledges a cultural figure whose work has reached audiences across languages and regions. The Golden Jubilee marks an important milestone for Shri Rajinikanth and highlights the lasting influence of cinema on Indian popular culture.
