The James Cameron film, Avatar: Fire and Ash has taken an average start at the box office in India, opening much below the pre-release projections. According to early estimates, Avatar: Fire and Ash has collected in the range of Rs. 18 crores to Rs. 20 crores on the first day, which is about 50 per cent lower than the earlier Avatar film.

The business potential of Avatar: Fire and Ash has been largely impacted by the wave of an epic called Dhurandhar starring Ranveer Singh. The James Cameron saga has still managed to brave the storm and put up a respectable number on the opening day, but it’s a must for the adventure film to show gains over the next two days, leading itself to the holiday period.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will be aiming to show a 50 per cent jump on Saturday and consolidate with another jump on Sunday, to pack a punch with an opening weekend in the range of Rs. 75 crores to Rs. 80 crores. Without competition, the business could have been higher by about 15 to 20 per cent, but the film is expected to make up for the shortfall in the long run, reaping the benefit of the holiday period.
There is a jump in advances for the weekend, but the walk-ups, too, have to be equally strong to pack a solid punch.
