Yash Raj Films recently hosted a special conversation between Karan Johar and Rani Mukerji to mark 30 years of the actor’s journey in cinema, ahead of the release of Mardaani 3. The 84-minute-long chat saw the two longtime collaborators revisit memories from Rani’s early years in the industry, share light-hearted anecdotes, and reflect on the personal milestones that shaped her career.

Karan Johar reads Adira’s heartfelt letter to Rani Mukerji at her 30-year career celebration: “We’ll have an everlasting bond forever”
One of the most moving moments of the evening came towards the conclusion, when Karan Johar revealed that he would be reading out a letter written by Rani’s daughter, Adira. Introducing the note, Karan said it was likely the first time the letter was being heard publicly, setting the tone for what turned out to be a deeply personal tribute.
The letter began with Adira addressing her mother directly: “Hello, Mama. First of all, I just want to say how much I love you. You’re the best mother in the world.” She went on to acknowledge the many moments they have shared together, adding, “We have shared countless memories together. Joyful, tearful, and of course, funny.”
Adira’s note struck a balance between affection and honesty, as she spoke about the qualities she admires in her mother, those she has inherited, and even those she finds challenging. “There are some qualities I like about you, some qualities I don’t, and some qualities I’ve inherited from you,” she wrote, before adding, “Some qualities I’ve got from you are my acting, dancing, and painting skills.”
In a candid admission that drew smiles from the audience, Adira added, “One quality I don’t like about you, but have got from you, is your short temper.” She also reflected on how she and her mother are both similar and different, noting, “We might be a bit different, like how you like bold colours, and I like pastels. But at the same time, we’re quite similar in many ways.”
The letter also highlighted Adira’s individuality, as she pointed out, “There are also some qualities that I have, but you don’t have, like my school math skills.” Looking ahead to the future, she wrote about the values she hopes to carry forward: “When I grow up, I hope to be kind, confident, loving, intelligent, and stylish, just like you.”
Adira concluded her message by underlining the bond she shares with her mother. “Setting everything aside, we are of the same blood. We are mother and daughter, and we’ll have an everlasting bond forever. I love you so much, mama. Love, your favourite, your beloved daughter, Adira.”
The heartfelt letter brought an emotional close to the evening, offering a rare glimpse into Rani Mukerji’s life beyond the screen. As the celebration honoured three decades of her cinematic legacy, the moment served as a reminder that behind the actor’s enduring career lies a deeply personal world shaped by family, memory, and connection.
