Madhuri Dixit, who is currently promoting her latest JioHotstar web series Mrs Deshpande, recently made a candid appearance on Kunal Vijaykar’s YouTube show Khaane Mein Kya Hai?, where she spoke fondly about food, family, and a cherished memory involving her late mother, Snehlata Dixit.

Madhuri Dixit shares a warm memory of her mother teaching her husband to cook: “Food is love”

During the conversation, Madhuri reflected on her belief that food is an expression of love, especially in Indian households. Recalling moments from her early married life, she shared how her husband, Dr Shriram Nene, would often ask her mother to teach him how to cook. “I always feel food is love. Our mothers, grandmothers, they make food with so much love,” Madhuri said.

She added that while her husband preferred precise measurements, her mother relied on instinct. “My mom used to say, ‘Put a handful of this, put a pinch of that.’ He used to say, one teaspoon or half a teaspoon, and she always responded, saying, ‘Not like this. Put it according to your instinct,’” the actor recalled with a smile.

For the unversed, Madhuri Dixit’s mother, Snehlata Dixit, passed away in March 2023 at the age of 90. The memory shared on the show offered a rare and personal glimpse into the warmth of Madhuri’s family life and the values she grew up with.

On the professional front, Madhuri is currently headlining Mrs Deshpande, a JioHotstar series that marks a significant departure from her previous roles. In an earlier interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor spoke about taking on the challenge of portraying a serial killer and credited director Nagesh Kukunoor for giving her the confidence to step into such unfamiliar territory.

Praising the filmmaker, Madhuri said, “He is a fantastic filmmaker. I have seen his films, I have seen his series and I’m very impressed with his work. I think he works very doggedly, like his vision is very clear when he makes a film.” She added that Kukunoor’s clarity and assurance played a key role in her decision to take up the project. “It’s such a different role for me to play that I first of all said yes to hearing the narration, and once I heard their vision, I was assured that it will be made in a very good way and I’ll be presented the way it should be done,” she said.
