Having become the highest grossing independent movie of the last decade, director Osgood Perkins and star Nicolas Cage are set to expand the Longlegs cinematic universe by returning for another dose of creepy horror.
Rather than a straightforward sequel or prequel, The Hollywood Reporter reveal that the film will be “set in the Longlegs universe”.
There’s also a change on the distribution front, with Paramount Pictures picking up the rights to Longlegs from Neon, who oversaw the release of the 2024 original to the tune of $127 million at the worldwide box-office. That’s even more impressive when you consider it cost under $10 million to produce.
Longlegs told the story of FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), who is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case in Oregon that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. She discovers a personal connection to the killer (a memorable Nicolas Cage) and must stop him before he strikes again.
Nicolas Cage has just finished shooting another sequel you didn’t expect to happen with Lords of War, writer-director Andrew Niccol’s follow-up to his 2005 arms dealer drama Lord of War, while Perkins has wrapped production on his Nicole Kidman headlined horror, The Young People.
