It’s good news for Rick and Morty fans as the release date for the upcoming ninth season of the acclaimed animated sci-fi series is coming much sooner than previously announced.

The ninth season of Rick and Morty was originally due to launch in the US on 31 August on Hulu and HBO Max.
But now, according to studio Warner Bros Discovery, the newest season will actually drop more than two months earlier, on 15 June 2026.
This is strictly for US fans of the madcap sci-fi comedy, however. UK fans were able to get their Rick and Morty fix a lot sooner. Season 9 began airing in the UK from 26 March, now on HBO Max, which has taken over the rights from Channel 4.
The official synopsis for Season 9 of Rick and Morty reads: “Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season 9 is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we’ll have neglected our families for nothing.”
Rick and Morty, which follows the time-travelling, genre-bending adventures of the titular uncle and nephew duo, continues to star Ian Cardoni (Rick) and Harry Belden (Morty), who took over from voice actor Justin Roiland, who actually played both characters up until season 7.
One of the most popular adult animation series of its generation, the Rick and Morty universe also continues to expand. The long-rumbling rumours of a live-action adaption are still abound (with Justice League filmmaker Zack Snyder even throwing his hat into the ring to helm the feature), while last year an animated spin-off focusing on the character of President Curtis (as voiced by Keith David) was announced to be in active development.

But there’s no need for fans to worry about there not being any new Rick and Morty on the horizon. Despite the ninth season just airing, co-creator Dan Harmon has confirmed that the show will air at least 12 full seasons, so there’s plenty of madcap, zany adventures on the horizon.
Rick and Morty season 9 is available to stream in the UK now via HBO Max.
