Yash Raj Films recently acknowledged the historic box office run of Dhurandhar with a congratulatory post that has since sparked widespread conversation across social media. Calling the film “not just a film, but a milestone moment in Indian cinema,” YRF lauded director Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios for delivering the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in a single language.

In their statement, YRF credited Aditya Dhar’s “clarity of purpose, fearless storytelling, and unwavering commitment to excellence” for setting a new benchmark. The banner also extended appreciation to the film’s cast and technicians, describing them as the “Dhurandhars” who brought the vision to life on the big screen and contributed to cinema that pushes creative ambition forward.

Reacting to the post, Dhurandhar lead actor Ranveer Singh shared an emotional response in the comments section, writing, “My beloved Alma Mater / only ever wanted to make you proud!” The actor’s reaction was particularly notable given his long association with Yash Raj Films, the banner that launched him in Band Baaja Baaraat.

The post, however, also triggered a mixed wave of reactions from netizens. While some appreciated YRF for publicly congratulating another studio despite inevitable trolling, others used the moment to draw comparisons with the studio’s own Spy Universe. One user remarked that it took “guts” for YRF to acknowledge Dhurandhar’s success while hoping their future spy films move away from formula-driven storytelling. Another comment cheekily suggested that the film had “exposed” weaknesses in YRF’s franchise approach, while a section of users urged the studio to adopt a more grounded and realistic tone, similar to Dhurandhar, and collaborate with filmmakers experienced in the spy genre.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is a 2025 Hindi-language spy action thriller produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, with a strong supporting cast that includes Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, and Manav Gohil. The first instalment of a planned two-part series, the narrative follows an undercover agent infiltrating Karachi’s criminal and political underworld as part of an anti-terror covert operation.

The story draws loose inspiration from several real-life geopolitical events, including the IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, and developments linked to Operation Lyari. Its grounded treatment of espionage and political tension has been widely cited as one of the reasons behind both its critical acclaim and unprecedented box office performance.
