5 Netflix comedies that need to come back for another season

Netflix has been home to some of the world’s biggest and most popular series internationally. With that comes a very in-demand library and catalog of content that people want to see refreshed and updated regularly. Sadly, that also means that some of the series fans are drawn to become ones that don’t make the cut for renewal.

Genres that dominate the platform are thrillers, documentaries, drama, and comedy. This is spread between other production companies’ works and an array of Netflix originals. There is a very important trend here: the genres people want to see are sometimes in such demand that they cannot fund the series anymore if the viewers aren’t hitting the targets they hoped for.

Netflix cannot always renew every show and sometimes axes some fan favorites. That being said, they have also swooped in at other points and saved series from other networks, giving them a new lease of life, such as Lucifer starring Tom Ellis. But here are five series that fans craved more of.

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was a series that was a fully new and innovative take on female empowerment among a group of women who were kept in an underground cult for years.

There was a lot to enjoy about the series, from the celebrity cameos to the returning comedic A-listers such as Jon Hamm, parodies, and cheesy, catchy music. Tina Fey created a hilariously funny and feel-good world whose four-season journey rounded off with an interactive movie. But fans were left wanting more, especially after we saw the Theme Park in Durnsville. Damn it!

4. Murderville

Improvised comedy is one of the hardest things to do, let alone make it appeal to a mass international audience. Murderville was the unscripted, hysterical detective series in which Detective Terry Seattle (Will Arnett) was joined by a new guest each week to help crack a murder case. Lasting for only one series and a Christmas special, this show had its case closed and was gone far too soon.

3. AJ and the Queen

Mixing two of the most streamed genres for the platform, AJ and the Queen was co-written by RuPaul and mixed the life of a hard-done-by fictional drag queen, Ruby Red, with the total opposite yet the same young AJ as they journey across the country on a mission to earn some extra cash and reunite AJ with her grandfather, whom we later learn didn’t really exist how she thought he did.

This show only lasted for one season, which is a great shame as it still had a lot of potential and was left on a cliffhanger. This one is one you can revisit for a binge session to enjoy some catchy feel-good music and vibes.

2. Insatiable

Insatiable is one of the wildest Netflix comedies to date. Running for two series, they really pushed the boundaries of character arcs revolving around relationships and experiences. There are so many broader messages in the series, from body confidence, the world of beauty pageants, marriage, law, crime, friendships, and beyond.

Each episode will definitely leave you with metaphorical whiplash as the themes and tone change so drastically, but the World of Patty Bladell and Bib Armstrong is one to keep you giggling away for the duration.

1. The Santa Clarita Diet

This one still hurts! Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were the two enticing leads in this Santa Clarita-based comedy. Playing realtors, their lives take an unexpected turn when Sheila (Barrymore) dies before beginning to crave human flesh and her husband, Joel (Olyphant), has to help her source it. But it leaves her feeling invigorated like never before. After three seasons, the show was sadly axed, but again, it concluded on a major cliffhanger, so fans were left craving more, but sadly, there was no more to come.

While it is really sad that Netflix couldn’t fund these series anymore, it is great that we had a chance to step into these worlds and can go back to watch them at any time. Plus, I am sure there will be more epic shows in the future. Woo hoo!
