Agatha Christie’s Poirot, which starred David Suchet, was a mainstay on our televisions for many years, with the mystery drama airing from 1989 to 2013.

Well, 13 years after the ITV adaptation drew to a close, it’s now being reported that Hercule Poirot is set to get a new incarnation in the form of a brand new series – and this time it would be on the BBC.

According to Deadline, the BBC has “committed” to a “major” new TV series based on the novels by Agatha Christie and, understandably, the bidding for the drama was competitive.

The report also outlines that the BBC has made a “significant commitment” to the series, stating that it could run for up to three seasons over the coming years and that it’s expected to land on our screens in the second half of 2027.

The BBC declined to comment on the news when approached by Radio Times.

As for who will be in charge of adapting Christie’s words for the small screen once again, that is said to be the responsibility of Benji Walters, who has worked on episodes of ITV’s Code of Silence, Netflix’s Obsession, The Leopard and BBC’s Noughts & Crosses.

But who will be taking on the leading role? Well, it’s something that fans will have to wait a while longer to find out but as of now, Deadline reports that the search for the star is currently under way.

For many, Suchet remains the definitive screen Poirot, but the character has appeared in various forms over the years, with the likes of Albert Finney, Sir Peter Ustinov, Sir Kenneth Branagh, John Malkovich, Alfred Molina and Peter Dinklage all having taken on the role in various film, TV and audio versions.

Script and plot details are being kept under wraps for now but with the iconic Belgian detective having appeared in a total of 33 novels and 51 short stories, there are certainly all manner of cases to pull from so we can’t wait to see what will unfold in this upcoming iteration.
