“Get some rest.” Weird Wave from Greece has debuted the first look teaser for the indie film titled Sea of Glass, a Greek thriller about two women connecting. The film is a co-production between Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and will be premiering next month at the 2026 Edinburgh Film Festival. The story follows 65-year-old Vangelio who goes on holiday after her husband’s death and meets Vicky, a young woman caring for her alcoholic father. When Vangelio protects Vicky from her father’s violence, chaos erupts in the Greek seaside town. The film “grafts elements from the rural gothic noir tradition and road movies onto the contemporary iconography of the Greek countryside.” Inspired by films like Thelma & Louise and The Postman Always Rings Twice. “What connects them and poisons both their lives is domestic violence and oppression. But they are also linked by a common goal: the need to break free and find themselves,” explains the director. The Greek film features Christiana Matelska Toka, Evangelia Andreadaki, Michalis Iatropoulos, Dimitris Tzoumakis, Nikos Georgakis, & Thanos Tokakis. As seen, it also boats some really powerful cinematography by DP Simos Sarketzis capturing the unique Greek landscape. Keep an eye out for this one.

There, she forms an unexpected bond with a young woman struggling with her own fractured relationship with her violent father. Beautifully shot, superbly acted and with a palpable tension that fills every frame, this is a superb thriller and nuanced exploration of female solidarity.” Sea of Glass, originally known as Θάλασσα από Γυαλί in Greek, is directed by Greek filmmaker Alexis Alexiou, director of the films Istoria 52 and Tetarti 04:45 previously, and many other shorts.
