Veteran actress and Member of Parliament Hema Malini has publicly addressed ongoing speculation about her relationship with her stepsons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, insisting that there is no discord between them despite recent social media chatter and rumours that followed the death of her husband Dharmendra.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Hema Malini responded directly to questions about her bond with Sunny and Bobby, describing it as warm and respectful. She said, “It has always been very nice and cordial. Even today it is very nice. I don’t know why people think something is wrong with us.”

The veteran actor added that much of the speculation stems from people’s appetite for gossip, and questioned the need to justify her personal life publicly. “Why should I answer them? Is it necessary for me to give an explanation? Why should I? It’s my life. My personal life, our personal life. We are absolutely happy and very close to each other. That’s it,” she said.

The discussion arose in the wake of two separate prayer events held after Dharmendra’s passing on November 24, 2025. Sunny and Bobby organised a prayer meeting in Mumbai for their father, while Hema Malini hosted a Gita paath at her home. A later memorial was held in Delhi by Hema and her daughters, which led some observers and netizens to infer tensions between the two sides of the family.

Addressing the rumours, Hema expressed frustration that grief was used to fuel stories. “I don’t have anything more to say about this. I don’t know what stories people are making up. So sad that people use other’s grief to write a few articles. That is why I don’t answer (such speculation),” she added.

Hema also explained why she has not yet watched Ikkis, Dharmendra’s final film, which was released on January 1, 2026, and premiered in Mumbai by Sunny and Bobby. She said she was in Mathura at the time and emotionally not ready to watch the movie so soon after his passing. “Also, I can’t see it now; it will be too overwhelming. Maybe I will watch it later when the wounds start healing,” she shared.
