The makers of Operation Tral have officially commenced production on the upcoming investigative thriller with a pooja ceremony held at Crowne Plaza Kochi on Monday morning. The film, which stars Jayasurya in the lead role, is being positioned as a large-scale Malayalam project with wider pan-Indian appeal.

The launch ceremony was attended by members of the cast and crew along with several personalities from the Malayalam film industry. Jain George Thadathil performed the switch-on ceremony, while noted screenwriter Bobby gave the first clap. Producer Joby George Thadathil, director Ratheesh Vega, Jayasurya, and other team members also participated in the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony.

Written and directed by Ratheesh Vega, Operation Tral is inspired by true events linked to encounters between Indian armed forces and terrorists in Tral, Jammu & Kashmir. The film is set against the backdrop of intelligence operations and aims to explore themes of patriotism, sacrifice, and national security through an investigative thriller format.

Alongside Jayasurya, the film features an ensemble cast including Rithika Singh, Amyra Dastur, Anson Paul, Nandalal Krishnamurthy, Sirajudheen, Vinay Rai, Siddique, Saikumar, and Murali Sharma in key roles.

The film will be shot across multiple locations including Kerala, Coimbatore, New Delhi, Kullu, Manali, Mussoorie, and Ladakh. According to the makers, the project combines large-scale action sequences with an emotionally driven narrative centered on the lesser-seen world of intelligence agencies and covert operations.

Produced by Joby George Thadathil under the banner of Goodwill Entertainments, the film recently unveiled its first-look poster, which drew attention online for its intense visual tone.

The technical team behind the project includes cinematographer Najose, editor Shafeeque V.B., and production designer Sajeesh Thamarassery. Interestingly, director Ratheesh Vega is also composing the music and background score for the film.

Costume design for the project is being handled by Sameera Saneesh and Saritha Jayasurya, while makeup is by Ronex Xavier. Sound mixing is by M.R. Rajakrishnan and sound design is by Vicky from Resonance Audios.

With filming now underway, Operation Tral joins the growing slate of Malayalam films aiming to expand their reach beyond regional audiences through larger themes, expansive visuals, and multilingual appeal.
