The upcoming 24th season of NCIS will see the return of a series legend, with Michael Weatherly returning as his iconic character Tony DiNozzo for a season-long arc.

Weatherly’s return as Tony comes after he fronted a new spin-off show last year, titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva. That show saw his character and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva being reunited in Paris, alongside their daughter, Tali.
Tony & Ziva was cancelled after one season on Paramount+.
When approached by Deadline about the news, NCIS‘s network CBS declined to comment regarding whether de Pablo will also be returning to the main series.
There is no word yet on whether Tony’s return would retcon the events of the spin-off, or would continue on with that storyline.

Weatherly first played Tony in the two-episode backdoor pilot for NCIS as part of the series JAG. He then went on to star in NCIS until season 13, and reprised his role briefly in season 21.
In spite of Tony & Ziva’s cancellation, the NCIS universe is continuing on apace, with ongoing spin-offs NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins set to return for a third and fourth season respectively.
A new spin-off, titled NCIS: New York, is also on the way, with LL Cool J reprising his role as Sam Hanna from NCIS: Los Angeles.

He will be starring opposite Scott Caan, who has previously appeared in the NCIS universe as Danny ‘Danno’ Williams, but will be playing a new character in the spin-off.
The show was announced at a press briefing in Los Angeles, with CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach saying: “LL is like a member of our family at CBS, and he’s done pop-ins at NCIS the last two years, and it’s been really successful.
“And the opportunity for Sam Hanna – who is originally from New York but lived in LA for NCIS: LA – to send him back home felt like a really ripe creative space to play in.”
NCIS is available to watch on Disney+ in the UK. You can sign up to Disney+ from £4.99 a month.
