New anime series Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is a romantic comedy based on the manga of the same name by Jinushi and debuted earlier in July 2026.
The series follows a burnt-out office worker, Sasaki, who is, according to the synopsis, “sustained by cigarettes and the cheerful service and smile of Yamada, the clerk at his favourite supermarket.”
The synopsis continues: “But one night after a gruelling shift, he arrives late to find Yamada nowhere to be seen. With nowhere left to smoke, his spirits sink—until a pierced young woman calls out to him: ‘You can smoke here.'”
A run of 12 short mini-episodes were released early on Crunchyroll, but the full-length weekly version has launched, as of Thursday 9 July 2026.
