Former Union Minister Smriti Irani marked three years of the Alliance for Global Good: Gender Equity & Equality with a strong presence on the opening day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Week 2026 in Davos, placing India’s priorities on gender equity, women-led enterprises and inclusive development firmly on the global agenda.

Irani participated at the WE Lead Lounge on Day 1 of WEF 2026, engaging with global leaders, policymakers and changemakers across multiple high-level discussions. Her engagements reflected the Alliance’s focus on translating international commitments into tangible outcomes at the grassroots level, a milestone she highlighted as the organisation completed three years of active work.

Her Davos appearance comes at a time when Irani has also returned to Indian television after 25 years with Kyunkii, a move that has drawn widespread attention. While the television comeback marked a cultural moment, her presence at Davos underscored her continued involvement in global policy conversations, particularly around inclusion, equity and sustainable development.

On the first day of the forum, Irani spoke at the session “Strategic Leadership in the Bio-Revolution: Women Powering Innovation and Global Solutions,” where she stressed the need for evidence-based policymaking and equitable participation as the world navigates advances in biotechnology. She also took part in the Market-Minded, Mission-Driven roundtable at WEF 2026, focusing on the sustainable scaling of social enterprises, followed by her address at the Mobilising Leadership and Multistakeholder Action for Clean Air session.

A significant moment during the day was Irani’s interaction with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who acknowledged the vision of the Alliance for Global Good and extended an invitation to explore collaboration with the state government. The proposed partnership aims to empower nearly five lakh women by strengthening women-led enterprises and Self-Help Groups, aligning global development goals with on-ground implementation.
