“Don’t worry – they’re going to eat him up!” Letterboxd is previewing this indie film for anyone to watch online before it’s officially released. Forelock is an indie dark comedy created & written by & directed by & starring actor Caleb Alexander Smith. The film originally premiered at the 2025 Austin Film Festival last year but hasn’t been picked up for any release yet. Worth a look anyway. “2 Men. 1 lock of hair. 72 suburbs in search of a city.” A fitness enthusiast looks for a fresh start in Los Angeles, but collides with a Hollywood Boulevard grifter who exploits his uncanny resemblance to the world’s most famous superhero (Superman) – starring Caleb Alexander Smith in that role as the lookalike. Described as a “a scrappy, darkly funny portrait of the strange economy of being almost-famous in Los Angeles.” Featuring David Krumholtz as Randy, portratying “his personal homage to Dustin Hoffman’s character in Midnight Cowboy.” This is available to watch now via the Letterboxd Video Store as an “unreleased” preview if you want to see this entire film right away. Gotta say – it looks pretty good, sporting some quality offbeat humor in this teaser. Check it out.
Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Caleb Alexander Smith’s film Forelock, direct from YouTube:

Via Letterboxd: “After a naive fitness enthusiast named Caiden (starring Caleb Alexander Smith) moves to Los Angeles, seeking a fresh start as a personal trainer despite his distracting resemblance to the star of a major superhero franchise, he instead falls under the influence of a crooked Hollywood Blvd impersonator (David Krumholtz). Like Midnight Cowboy (1969) reimagined through the absurd, fame-hungry margins of modern Hollywood, Forelock is a scrappy, darkly funny buddy movie about the strange economy of being almost-famous in Los Angeles.” Forelock is both written and directed by actor / filmmaker Caleb Alexander Smith, making his second film after directing The Spearhead Effect previously. Produced by Lindsay McCormick. This first premiered at the 2025 Austin Film Festival late last year. No final US release date is set. It’s already available to rent & view through July in the Letterboxd Video Store. Want to watch?
