Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 campaign may have ended in disappointment, but the tournament has undoubtedly produced one of its brightest young stars in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old batting sensation continued to receive admiration from across the country following the Royals’ exit, with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan becoming the latest public figure to praise the teenager’s remarkable achievements.

Rajasthan Royals were knocked out of the tournament after suffering a seven-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh. Despite posting an imposing total of 214/6, the Royals were unable to defend it as Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill led the chase with a match-winning century.

Although the result ended Rajasthan’s title hopes, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again emerged as one of the standout performers. The young batter smashed 96 runs off just 47 deliveries, narrowly missing out on a century. His latest innings came days after another explosive knock of 97 off 29 balls in the Eliminator.

Following the match, emotional scenes from the Rajasthan Royals dugout went viral on social media. A visibly heartbroken Sooryavanshi was seen in tears after the defeat and was comforted by senior teammate Ravindra Jadeja and members of the support staff.

Soon after the match, Amitabh Bachchan took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his admiration for the teenager’s accomplishments. The actor wrote in Hindi, “T 5756(i) – Sooryavanshi – १५ साल की उम्र का अद्भुत सूर्या । इस उम्र में तो हम बंटों और गुल्ली डंडा भी ठीक से नहीं खेल पा रहे थे!!” Translated into English, the post reads: “The amazing 15-year-old Soorya. At that age, I couldn’t even play marbles or gulli danda properly.”

The veteran actor’s post quickly gained attention online, with many users echoing his sentiments and applauding Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary rise in Indian cricket.

The teenager’s IPL 2026 campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. Across 16 matches, he accumulated 776 runs at an average of 48.50 and an astonishing strike rate of 237.30. He also finished the season as the Orange Cap holder.

In addition to topping the run-scoring charts, Sooryavanshi broke several records during the tournament. He became the fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced and struck 65 sixes, the highest tally recorded by a batter in a single IPL season.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan remains active on the professional front. The actor was last seen in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth and in Kalki 2898 AD with Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan. The veteran actor is currently shooting for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. While reports have linked Sai Pallavi to the project, the makers are yet to make an official announcement.
