Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) is hiding a pretty hefty secret in Coronation Street, and now we finally know why he decided to lie to the police about Summer Spellman’s (Harriet Bibby) whereabouts on the night of Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) death.

She’s facing the prospect of spending the rest of her life behind bars, with a mountain of evidence stacked up against her. There’s the incriminating journal she burnt, her brooch being found at the scene of the crime, and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) spotting her running away from the direction of Theo’s flat.
Summer had hoped that Tyrone could prove that she was innocent, as he’d also seen her leaving the flat, and had witnessed a very much alive Theo peeking through the blinds.
However, when approached by the Weatherfield cop shop, he denied everything, and earlier this week made a guilt-ridden phone call to a mystery accomplice, telling them that they needed to form a plan.
In today’s episode, at the prison, Summer furiously urged Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) for help, insisting that Tyrone spotted both her and Theo that evening and she couldn’t fathom why he was denying it.

Todd immediately turned his anger on Tyrone over the bar of the Rovers, accusing him of putting Summer behind bars by refusing to come clean to the police. But Tyrone refused to back down, firmly claiming he never saw her at all.
Later, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) headed to the prison to see Summer, advising her that agreeing to a plea deal for manslaughter could shorten her prison sentence. She was appalled, maintaining that she had nothing to do with the killing.
Meanwhile, Tyrone was confiding in Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) about the circumstances, saying that they should admit what really happened. He was blissfully unaware of Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) listening in, fascinated by the exchange.
A very telling flashback then revealed that Tyrone slipped away from Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Alison King and Vicky Myers) wedding reception, and noticed the shutter on Webster’s Autocentre open.
He curiously slipped inside, and was horrified to discover Carl interfering with Kevin’s car brakes. Pulling out his phone, Tyrone began to record him.
However, he then stumbled and instinctively grabbed hold of a trolley jack for support, which sent the vehicle crashing down onto Carl. Tyrone panicked and fled the scene, bumping into Ronnie, who advised him to leave and allow him to sort things.

As we saw at the time, Ronnie drove him to the hospital so that he could recover from his injuries.
Today’s flashback continued with the moment he spotted Summer emerging unsteadily from the flat above the corner shop. Looking up, he noticed Theo standing at the window, watching her leave.
As the episode came to a close, wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) attempted to reassure Ty’, insisting Summer must have misunderstood the situation and believing that, eventually, things would work for her.
Will Tyrone’s guilty conscience get the better of him?
