Peacock reveals release window for The Day of the Jackal Season 2
NBCUniversal confirmed at its 2026 TV upfronts that The Day of the Jackal Season 2 will premiere in 2027.
The studio has not yet set a specific date for the Eddie Redmayne-led spy thriller’s return. Season 1 concluded in December 2024, making the gap between seasons over two years. The series follows a ruthless British assassin known as “The Jackal” in a tense cat-and-mouse chase. Lashana Lynch portrays the MI6 officer investigating him across the show’s gripping first season. Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 political thriller novel of the same name inspired the adaptation.
Season 1 earned strong critical reception upon its late 2024 debut. The show currently holds a “Certified Fresh” 85% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received nominations for an Emmy, two Golden Globes, two SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards, and two Critics Choice Awards.
Redmayne will return as the titular assassin, whose real name was revealed as Alexander Duggan. Matt Bomer recently joined the cast in a recurring role as a new villain for Season 2. Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber will also appear in recurring roles that remain undisclosed.
Filming for the sophomore season kicked off earlier this spring in Budapest, with production currently underway. Season 1 started filming in June 2023 and wrapped in the fall ahead of its November 2024 premiere. A similar timeline would place Season 2’s production wrap by the end of this summer.
The earliest possible premiere window sits at summer 2027 for the show’s highly anticipated return. However, a fall release could mirror Season 1’s successful launch strategy. NBCUniversal also confirmed that Lucy Liu and Ken Leung’s crime drama Superfakes will debut on Peacock in 2027.
