The talented and veteran actor Amit Behl is on cloud nine as his upcoming film, September 21, was screened at the Marché du Film at the 79th Cannes Film Festival 2026. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Amit opened up on this aspect and then also went down memory lane.

While discussing his film career, Amit Behl touched on Hawa (2003), starring Tabu, and shared a hilarious anecdote. He said, “It was my second film with Guddu ji (Guddu Dhanoa). I had already worked with him on a very interesting film, Kismat (2004), starring Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra. Then, Hawa happened. It was a low-key release and I went to watch the film’s night show at Gaiety-Galaxy. My character had married Tabu and he leaves her just before the interval.”

He continued, “After the interval, Shahbaz Khan’s character, a doctor, asks Tabu ‘Aapke husband abhi kahan hai?’. Somebody from the audience shouted, ‘Peeche baitha hai. Apni biwi ke saath ice-cream kha raha hai’! It was very funny and surreal (laughs).”

Future plans

September 21 will be released this Friday, on May 22. When asked about his next projects, Amit Behl revealed, “I have completed work on a film, Jai Hind Jai Sindh. I am currently working on a very big film. I can’t talk about it as I have signed the NDA. Raj Kundra’s Punjabi film, The Great Punjab Robbery, is due for release in August. We are expected to start dubbing for it in 10 days. I am awaiting the release of my Sony LIV series; we have already shot its first season. I am also in talks for a film in Kannada.”

Amit Behl began his career in television, but right now he’s more focused on films and the web. He explained, “I have taken a sabbatical from TV for the last two years. The content has deteriorated so badly that maza bhi nahin aata. Wohi role, wohi line, wohi location and the same way of shooting. Cinema and web have spoiled me. Hence, I don’t feel like going back to TV.”
