Brendan Gleeson, who played the erratic and brilliant Mad-Eye Moody in the original Harry Potter films, has encouraged the next actor to play the role to make it their own. With this statement, Gleeson also confirmed that he was not looking forward to returning as the iconic character in the new series. But Gleeson does not want the next actor to play the character to follow his lead.

Brendan Gleeson reveals if he might return as Mad-Eye Moody in Harry Potter series
Brendan Gleeson has garnered immense critical acclaim for his performance as Mad-Eye Moody in three of the Harry Potter films in the franchise. He spoke about the future of the role.
While speaking at the New York premiere of Spider-Noir on May 13, the Silvermane actor reflected on his time as Alastor Moody, one of the most intriguing characters on the show.
When asked if Gleeson had any advice for the next actor who steps into the role, he said, “Absolutely not.” (via PEOPLE). The veteran actor added, “Enjoy yourself, do your own thing.”
Over a course of five years, Gleeson took on the role in three films, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
But it seems that he will never return to the role again. Instead, a new actor will likely join the series as Mad-Eye. However, as the series is just starting, it will be some time before Mad-Eye Moody makes an appearance.
In an old interview from 2011 with The Guardian, Gleeson said that starring in the movies didn’t have a big impact on his personal life. He believes that it is because not a lot of fans recognized him without the detachable eye.
He also shared in this interview that he took the role up because of his four sons.
Brendan Gleeson will soon be seen in Spider-Noir.
