DC fans are hyped after Clayface’s CinemaCon trailer
The Clayface trailer recently premiered at CinemaCon, offering a glimpse at the upcoming horror movie. It follows Matt Hagen, an actor badly disfigured by a gangster. Seeking to fix the damage done, he consults a scientist who experiments on him. This alters his body chemistry and transforms him into a clay-like being who can shapeshift at will.
The footage, accompanied by background music, Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize,” puts the spotlight on Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries, and his abilities. It also emphasizes the body horror aspect that the film is going for.

Fans lauded the trailer and expressed excitement. A viewer called the clip their personal highlight, saying it was “unnerving” and “disconcerting.” They added that it played into people’s perceptions of beauty, the reason to be in the spotlight, and the psychological aspect of those things. Further, they said that the imagery reminded them of early Blumhouse productions, Andrew Kevin Walker’s filmography, and other horror works. “Clayface looks so good,” they stated.
Meanwhile, Jeff Sneider posted that the upcoming DCU entry looked “dope,” adding that it was the type of comic book feature he enjoyed. He further stated, “Not the bright colored, portal-in-the-sky nonsense. I want dark and f—– up. I’m IN.”
Scott Menzel assured fans that Clayface would satisfy those looking for a break from James Gunn’s humor-oriented storytelling. He also highlighted its “terrifying” tone and unique place in DC’s cinematic world.
