The recently released teaser and poster of Baby Do Die Do have generated significant curiosity among moviegoers, with Huma Qureshi stepping into the shoes of a contract killer named Baby Karmarkar. As anticipation builds around the action thriller, director Nachiket Samant has now opened up about the creative process behind crafting the film‘s unconventional protagonist.

Baby Do Die Do director Nachiket Samant opens up about Huma Qureshi playing a mute and deaf assassin in; reveals why he took away her dialogues
Speaking about the origins of the project, Samant revealed that the idea stemmed from a simple conversation about female assassins in Hindi cinema. “We were just riffing one day- has there ever been a Hindi film about a professional female assassin? We couldn’t think of one. That gap was instantly exciting, so we went after that character, and the world kind of built itself around her,” he shared. As the story evolved, Mumbai emerged as an integral element of the narrative. According to the filmmaker, the bustling city and its crowds play a vital role in defining Baby’s modus operandi. “She kills and disappears into the crowd. That’s what’s so unique about her- it’s as much about the escape as it is about the kill,” he said.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the film is Baby’s character being both mute and deaf. While the concept itself may seem larger than life, Samant believes the authenticity of the role ultimately depended on Huma Qureshi’s performance. “All the rootedness, Huma brought. It’s one thing to write a fantastic character- you still need a solid actor to bring it to life,” he explained. The filmmaker further revealed that removing dialogues from the character became one of the most exciting creative challenges during the making of the film. “Huma’s a fully tayyar actor, but this time, suddenly taking away her dialogues seemed like the perfect challenge. It forced her somewhere I hadn’t seen her go, and she rose to it completely,” he added.
The role marks a departure from Huma’s previous performances, requiring her to communicate through expressions, body language, and action rather than spoken words. The teaser has already hinted at a mysterious and intense character, sparking conversations among fans about the actor’s transformation.
Apart from Huma Qureshi in the titular role, Baby Do Die Do also features Sikander Kher, Chunky Pandey, Seema Pahwa, Rachit Singh, and Marudhar Shekhawat in pivotal roles. Produced by Saqib Saleem under his banner Saleem Siblings in association with Pune 04 Films, the film is slated to hit cinemas on July 3, 2026.
