Netflix’s fresh take on Little House on the Prairie only landed on screens the other week, but fans of the Ingalls family already have an answer as to what the future looks like for the reboot.
The reboot revisits Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic frontier stories, with the feel-good drama offering “a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
The series sees Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, who was the central hero in the original novels. She’s joined by Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald and Skywalker Hughes in the eight-episode first season, which charts the family’s move west and their new life on the prairie.

Will there be a Little House on the Prairie season 2 on Netflix?
Yes! Little House on the Prairie was renewed for season 2 ahead of season 1’s debut.
On the announcement of the show’s renewal, Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, said: “We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come.
“With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine also said: “I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”
Little House on the Prairie season 2 release date speculation: When could it return?
Netflix may have confirmed that season 2 is happening, but a release date has not yet been confirmed.
However, filming for the new season is currently underway and is expected to wrap by mid-October this year. That means that we could be looking at a season 2 release date of 2027.

Who could be in the Little House on the Prairie season 2 cast?
The core Ingalls family is expected to return following the first season. The likely returning faces include:
- Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls
- Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls
- Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls
- Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls
- Warren Christie as John Edwards
Supporting players from season 1, including Jocko Sims as Dr George Tann and Alyssa Wapanatâhk as White Sun, could also feature but there’s a chance they may not.
However, it has been confirmed that season 2 is set to get some new faces as Laura’s “ultimate rival” Nellie Oleson will be introduced and played by Willa Dunn.
Also joining the season 2 cast are Charlotte Sullivan (Law & Order: Organized Crime) as Nellie’s “energetic and funny” mother, Margaret Oleson while Rachelle Lefevre (North by North) stars as “beloved schoolteacher Eva Beadle, who quickly becomes a guiding presence for Mary and Laura.”

Plot details for season 2 are being kept under wraps for now.
The reboot draws on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s much-loved books, following the Ingalls family as they build a life on the American frontier. The second season is likely to continue adapting the source material while deepening the family’s story, with it also set to be inspired by the fourth novel, On the Banks of Plum Creek, which sees Laura’s foe being introduced.
The central question of how Laura goes on to become an author is also set to be teased out and with the Ingalls en route to Walnut Grove to meet the Oleson family, we can expect plenty more drama.

Little House on the Prairie is a Netflix original, so season 2 will stream exclusively on the platform, just like the first season.
