They get married before Elliott goes into a risky surgery, just in case things don’t go the way they hope. And for a while, it does go right. The surgery works, and Elliott goes into remission.

But that’s not really the end of the story. It’s where things start to change. Without going deep into spoiler territory, the film shifts gears and starts exploring what happens when life no longer feels like an emergency. Elliot and Mia begin to question what they actually mean to each other outside of everything they’ve been through, and they find their once-solid connection starting to feel a little less certain in the everyday rhythm of normal life.
