“It’s a state of mind. That place where you lose yourself & where you find yourself.” 🏄 Ride on! Fathom Entertainment is hosting a few 35th Anniversary re-release screenings of Point Break, Kathryn Bigelow’s 90s crime thriller action movie starring the Swayze and the Keanu all-on-one. This movie resurfaced again because they made a (really bad) remake in 2015; then they put out a new 4K Collector’s Edition version in 2023. It originally hit theaters in 1991 so it’s perfectly timed for a 35th celebration re-run. This summer… experience the edge in fully restored 4K! In Los Angeles, a gang of bank robbers call themselves the Ex-Presidents and commit their crimes while wearing masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon and Johnson. The F.B.I. believes that the members of the gang could be surfers and sends young agent Johnny Utah undercover at the beach to mix with the surfers and gather information. Before the film, join surfing icon Matt Archbold as he reflects on the meaningful pursuit of surfing, looking back on his time as a surf double for Patrick Swayze and teaching the cast how to surf for the film. Bigelow’s Point Break stars Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey, Lori Petty, John C. McGinley, and many others. Plus lots of talent stuntmen! As cheesy as it is, this movie actually rules. The action is awesome – but it’s also crazy good 90s entertainment.

In LA, a gang of bank robbers call themselves the Ex-Presidents and commit their crimes while wearing masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson. The FBI believes that the members of the gang could be surfers and sends young agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) undercover at the beach to mix with the surfers and gather information. As he is drawn deeper into the world of charismatic surfer Bodhi & his thrill-seeking crew, Utah must decide where his loyalties lie. Point Break is directed by American filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow, her fourth film at the time just after Blue Steel (1990) and before making Strange Days (1995). The screenplay is written by W. Peter Iliff; from a story by Rick King & W. Peter Iliff. Produced by Peter Abrams & Robert L. Levy. Made by Largo Entertainment & Johnny Utah Productions. 20th Century Fox first released Point Break in US theaters in July 1991, earning an impressive $43M at the box office that year. It was already re-released a few times before and they made a remake in 2015. It’s already available on 4K UHD Blu-ray as well ever since 2023. Fathom will re-release Bigelow’s Point Break for its 35th Anniversary in US theaters on August 16th & August 19th, 2026 this summer. Any big fans of this early 90s classic?
