“This is not about money! It’s about getting out alive!” Vertical has debuted the official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled The Get Out, the latest collaboration from action filmmaker Derrick Borte (American Dreamer, Unhinged) and actor Russell Crowe. This was originally titled Bear Country, according to this Twitter post from Crowe earlier this year, though it has since been renamed for the actual full US release. Crowe stars as Manco Kapak, a nightclub owner who is forced back into a violent game of cat & mouse when masked gunmen, cartel threats, and a mysterious buyer turn his escape plan into a deadly trap. Will he find his way out or end up trapped? Crowe describes it better: “Great story. Great cast. This is Manco Kapak, an immigrant Albanian night club owner who launders drug money for a cartel… Mystery, mayhem, murder… and meditation.” Also starring Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, with Nina Dobrev and Aaron Paul. This looks like a very strange mish-mash of genres & generic crime tropes rolled into one jumbled up script. Huh.
Here’s the official trailer (+ alternative poster) for Derrick Borte’s film The Get Out, direct from YouTube:

A nightclub owner (Russell Crowe) is on the verge of leaving his dangerous past behind to reitre with his girlfriend. When masked gunmen (Nina Dobrev & Aaron Paul) rob him and he finds himself squeezed by ruthless cartels, a mysterious newcomer arrives with interest in buying the business. With danger closing in from all sides, he must navigate a deadly web of deception, power, and survival – where escape may no longer be an option. The Get Out, formerly titled Bear Country, is directed by German filmmaker Derrick Borte, director of the films The Joneses, Dark Around the Stars, H8RZ, London Town, American Dreamer, and Unhinged previously. The screenplay is written by Derrick Borte & Daniel Forte; adapted from the novel titled “Strip” by Thomas Perry. Produced by Mark Fasano via Nickel City Pictures, Jeffrey Greenstein of A High Standard, Deborah Glove’‘s G2 Dispatch, and Mark Bower’s Life & Soul Pictures. Vertical releases Borte’s The Get Out in select US theaters + on VOD starting June 26th, 2026 coming up. Look any good?
