With filming having now kicked off in Serbia on the second season of MGM+’s Robin Hood, it’s also been excitingly confirmed that there will be three new faces joining the fold.

James Purefoy (Sex Education, Rome), Colin O’Donoghue (Once Upon a Time) and Luke Roberts (Ransom) will all be joining the Robin Hood season 2 cast as the stakes get ever higher for our returning characters.
In terms of who will be playing who, Purefoy will star as King Henry, “the formidable monarch whose ruthless vision for England sets the season’s events into motion” and thus is a pretty major player for season 2.

O’Donoghue will star as Prince Richard, the eldest son of King Henry and “rightful heir whose fate threatens to plunge the kingdom into civil war”. Roberts is Amaury D’Montfort, “an ambitious Norman nobleman whose political aspirations place him at the centre of Nottingham’s growing power struggle.”
These three new characters will not only shape the political landscape of season 2, but will also undoubtedly spell trouble for Rob (Jack Patten). As per the series description, Rob and his allies will “navigate shifting loyalties, royal power struggles and dangerous new threats.” Count us excited!
Confirmation of the show’s return was made earlier this year after the first instalment marked an all-time best first season for MGM+.

In a statement at the time of the show’s renewal, Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, said: “Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the US and abroad has been exceptional.
“We’re thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, [executive producer and director] Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see where they take us next.”

As for other stars returning to the series, we haven’t had any confirmation just yet but would anticipate that all the main players would be reprising their roles. We do know that, from the sounds of things, everything’s only set to get knottier as we veer into the second season.
The synopsis for season 2 reads: “As the Angevin empire threatens to tear itself apart, Rob and Marian are drawn into the orbit of kings and queens, forced to wield the very instruments of Norman power – politics, gold and betrayal – to secure a future for the Saxons. What begins as a fight for survival becomes a reckoning with power itself.
“Sweeping in scope yet intimate in emotion, season 2 deepens the romance, sharpens the rivalries, and reimagines the legend as a prestige drama about love, legacy and the price of becoming history.”
