Amruta Khanvilkar is starting the year on a strong note with the trailer launch of her upcoming Netflix web series Taskaree, marking her first-ever foray into the action genre on the digital platform. The action thriller, which also stars Emraan Hashmi, is directed by Neeraj Pandey and is set to stream on Netflix from January 14.

Sharing how the project came her way, Amruta revealed that Taskaree began on a memorable note for her. “2025 started with a bang for me because I began shooting for Taskaree in January last year, and it turned out to be such an incredible experience,” she said. Interestingly, the role did not involve a conventional audition process. “I didn’t have to audition for my role. Thanks to casting director Vicky Sadanah, I met Neeraj sir and performed a single scene—he loved it, and that was it.”

Calling Taskaree an important milestone in her career, the actor highlighted that it is her first action web series. “It’s my first-ever action web series. I’ve performed a lot of action sequences in the show,” she shared. Speaking about her character, Amruta added, “My character, Mitali, is a total badass and one of the core members of the customs team. I truly enjoyed stepping into her shoes and exploring this side of myself.”

The scale of the series also stood out for Amruta, particularly the locations used during filming. She mentioned that the team shot at several places that are usually inaccessible to the public, adding to the authenticity and intensity of the narrative.

Working with Neeraj Pandey proved to be a learning experience for the actor. “The way Neeraj sir envisions and executes a scene is phenomenal. Every moment on his set is fast-paced and dynamic. Actors are constantly alert, wondering what’s coming next,” she said. Drawing a parallel with theatre, Amruta explained, “It almost feels like doing theatre—long takes, multiple movements, and so many people sharing the frame. He is exceptional at handling large crowds.”

Taskaree also marks Amruta Khanvilkar’s first collaboration with Netflix, something she describes as especially meaningful. “It makes me immensely happy. The platform and the makers are fantastic, and starting the year with this project feels truly special,” she said. Calling the experience a career highlight, she added, “I always wanted to work with Netflix, and to do so under Neeraj Pandey’s direction is like sone pe suhaga.”

Recalling one of the most memorable moments from the shoot, Amruta spoke about filming at Mumbai airport. “Shooting at Mumbai airport and witnessing the entire ecosystem function in real time was an experience in itself—it was simply amazing,” she concluded.

Apart from Taskaree, streaming on Netflix from January 14, Amruta will also be seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s Space Gen – Chandrayaan, which begins streaming from January 23.
