The Boys Season 5 almost brought back a hero everyone thought was gone for good. Eric Kripke revealed what happened when he reached out to Dominique McElligott about a Queen Maeve return.

Eric Kripke says he reached out to Dominique McElligot to return in The Boys
Eric Kripke recently told Gold Derby that he reached out to Dominique McElligott about a Queen Maeve cameo.
The showrunner wanted McElligott to appear in The Boys series finale. However, the actress could not make it work due to scheduling and her reported retirement from acting.
Kripke described the exchange as friendly and without any controversy between the two parties. He recalled asking McElligott directly about her interest in returning for the final episode. “If we wrote it, would you do it?” Kripke asked her during their conversation.
McElligott responded honestly about her current situation and priorities away from the industry. “I’m kind of out of it, and I’m busy, and unfortunately, I can’t, but send everyone my love,” she replied. Kripke noted that the two still email each other occasionally despite her supposed departure from acting.
The series finale, titled “Blood and Bone,” wrapped up all major storylines across five seasons. Philip Sgriccia directed the episode, while Judalina Neira and David Reed wrote the script together. The episode debuted in select theaters on Tuesday before streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday.
Kripke identified the final Butcher-Hughie scene as the moment he feels most proud of overall. He praised both Karl Urban and Jack Quaid for their performances in that emotional sequence. The showrunner also emphasized that “hope” served as the central message for the show’s conclusion.
Meanwhile, Kripke confirmed that the next chapter in The Boys universe will arrive soon through Vought Rising. The prequel series is expected to premiere in the first half of 2027. Kripke shared that the team is roughly three weeks away from reaching picture lock on the project. He described the upcoming series as “smart and twisty and noir-ish and really fun” for audiences.
