“One day all of this will vanish – with brick and mortar and dogma!” West End Films revealed an official trailer for Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day, a new cinematic adaptation of this classic Virginia Woolf story from 1910s about a woman who doesn’t want to marry any men. It’s set for UK release in theaters starting in June this summer. From Woolf’s funniest novel, Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day is an un-romantic comedy about a passionate astronomer, Katharine Hilbery, who does everything she can to avoid romantic love and marriage. Set in Britain at the turn of the 20th century, a female astronomer tries to avoid the patriarchal attitudes of the day. Haley Bennett stars as Katharine, with a cast including Elyas M’Barek, Jennifer Saunders, Lily Allen, Jack Whitehall as William, and Timothy Spall as her dad. As romantic loyalties shift, Katharine is pushed to question everything she has been taught about love, ambition, & how to claim her space in the world. This looks pretty good! A modern update on the story but still with the same spunk.
Here’s the official UK trailer for Tina Gharavi’s film Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day, from YouTube:

Set in the twilight glow of the Edwardian era, the film follows Katharine Hilbery (starring Haley Bennett), a fiercely independent astronomer who treats romance like an inconvenient comet she’d rather not track. While society nudges her toward marriage, Katharine keeps her gaze fixed firmly on the stars. Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day is a film adaptation directed by international filmmaker Tina Gharavi, director of the films I Am Nasrine and Tribalism Is Killing Us previously, plus many other shorts. The screenplay is by Justine Waddell. Adapted from Virginia Woolf’s novel “Night and Day” first published in 1919. Produced by Christopher Figg, Julie Link, Philipp G. Steffens, Meg Thomson, Justine Waddell. Vue Lumiere & West End Films debut Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day in UK cinemas starting June 19th, 2026. Who wants to watch?
