Vivek Daschaudary’s debut film Toaster, which released recently, has been receiving a positive response from audiences and critics. The project marks the filmmaker’s transition from advertising to long-format storytelling, bringing with it a collaborative process shaped by familiarity and trust.

Working with Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa, both close friends, Daschaudary described the experience as creatively liberating. The existing bond between the trio allowed for open conversations and a more fluid exchange of ideas during the filmmaking process.

Reflecting on this dynamic, Daschaudary said, “Because we’re friends, we could be brutally honest with each other. There was no awkwardness in saying something isn’t working, and no hesitation in pushing each other to do better. That comfort really helped because we weren’t trying to impress each other, we were just focused on making the film as good as it can be.”

He further added that their discussions, while sometimes challenging, remained constructive. “With Raj and Patralekhaa, the conversations were very real, sometimes tough, but always coming from the right place, and that made the process much more honest and creatively satisfying,” he noted.

Toaster reflects this collaborative approach, balancing a quirky tone with grounded storytelling. The film’s narrative and performances have drawn attention for their authenticity, which the director attributes in part to the ease shared among the team.

Before stepping into feature filmmaking, Daschaudary built a strong reputation as an advertising filmmaker, working with actors such as Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. With Toaster, he makes his OTT debut, marking a new phase in his career.
