“When I’m writing, I’m visualizing the film as an audience member. As somebody experiencing the story. Then when I direct the story, I’m trying to take the audience there.” Tune in and enjoy this interview! Last night on the iconic interview series 60 Minutes, they did a big segment on filmmaker Christopher Nolan. It’s part of promotion for The Odyssey (watch the epic trailer), but it’s also just an exciting and enjoyable inside look at Nolan and his filmmaking choices. Nolan is known for not giving many interviews and being very closed off about his life. But this time we finally get a full-on 60 Minutes chat and an examination of his filmmaking ideas and what makes him tick. I actually wish we could watch the full uncut 60+ minute long interview with Nolan, I’d love to hear all of his answers to every question. There’s some good moments in this interview, but I want even more! As much as Nolan has a reputation for being coy and private, he really seems like a very fun and very smart guy that actually loves to geek out about movies. He’s still one of my personal all-time fave directors and I cannot wait to see The Odyssey – and anything he makes big or small.

The Odyssey follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Depicting encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in his long-awaited reunion with his wife, Penelope. The Odyssey is directed by the acclaimed, Oscar-winning British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, director of the movies Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer previously. The screenplay is also by Christopher Nolan, adapted from the iconic ancient Greek epic poem Odyssey attributed to Homer. With cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema, and music composed by Ludwig Göransson. It’s produced by Emma Thomas & Christopher Nolan through their own company Syncopy. Universal Pictures will release Nolan’s The Odyssey in theaters worldwide starting on July 17th, 2026 this summer. Who’s ready to watch now?
