Brighton host Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season with Fabian Hürzeler’s side closing in on European football.
The Seagulls, who are hoping to play in Europe for the second time in their history, are seventh while holding a point advantage on Chelsea and Brentford in eighth and ninth respectively.
Brighton lost 1-0 at Leeds last weekend but they have their destiny in their own hands and a win on the South Coast on Sunday would confirm a spot in the Europa League next season. A draw could also be enough but it depends on results elsewhere.
There is a way for Brighton to qualify for the Champions League, too. If Aston Villa, who won the Europa League this week, finish fifth their spot is passed down to sixth place. If the Seagulls beat Man Utd and Bournemouth lose against Nottingham Forest, Brighton would be in the Europe’s elite club competition next term.
Man Utd, meanwhile, have confirmed third place in the Premier League, which will bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford next campaign.
Michael Carrick is set to become the Red Devils’ permanent manager this summer with their former midfielder penning a two-year deal and if they avoid defeat against Brighton, he will have lost just two of his 17 games since taking over in January.
