Bobby Deol has opened up about the personal connection he felt with his upcoming film Bandar, revealing that the story resonated with him because of his experiences growing up with sisters in a society where women often faced additional challenges and scrutiny.

Bobby Deol says concerns for his sisters shaped his understanding of Bandar as he speaks on growing up in patriarchal society
The actor, who plays Samar Mehra in the Anurag Kashyap-directed drama, recently reflected on why the film’s themes struck a chord with him. Bandar follows the story of a once-successful pop star whose life takes a dramatic turn after serious sexual assault allegations place him at the center of public and legal scrutiny.
Speaking about the subject matter of the film, Bobby shared that his perspective has been shaped by observing the realities faced by women around him.
“I have grown up in an environment where I have seen this myself. I have sisters and I used to always worry. Unki shaadi hogi, kaunse ghar mein jaayegi, unke saath kaise hoga, unke in-laws… dar lagta hai. We have grown up in a very male chauvinist kind of a world where men have always been a dominating factor and luckily, I have so many sisters, that the fear is always there and I don’t take that away by playing this character,” he said.
His comments offer insight into the emotional lens through which he approached the role. While Bandar deals with a high-profile controversy involving its central character, the actor suggested that the film also raises broader questions about power dynamics, social attitudes, and the impact such situations have on individuals and families.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap and written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the film explores the fallout of allegations, public judgment, and media scrutiny. Bobby essays the role of Samar Mehra, a popular but troubled music star whose personal and professional life begins to unravel amid a growing controversy.
The film also features Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Raj B. Shetty, Riddhi Sen, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi, and Nagesh Bhonsle in key roles.
Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi’s Saffron Magicworks and backed by Zee Studios, Bandar is scheduled to release in cinemas worldwide on June 5, 2026.
