The upcoming ZEE5 web series Brown is generating attention not only for marking Karisma Kapoor’s return to the web space after Mentalhood (2020), but also for bringing veteran actor Helen back in front of the camera after nearly 14 years. Directed by Abhinay Deo, the noir crime thriller also features singer Shaan in his OTT acting debut.

Set in Kolkata, Brown follows an alcoholic cop, played by Karisma Kapoor, as she investigates a series of brutal murders. While the show explores themes of trauma, guilt, and redemption, Helen’s character is expected to bring lighter moments to the otherwise intense narrative.

Speaking about returning to acting after a long break, Helen shared, “It’s been such a long time since I faced the camera. Returning to acting, even for a small role in Brown, has been delightful. Sometimes, it’s not about the length of the role, but the joy of being part of something special.”

The veteran actor also opened up about reconnecting with the experience of being on set again. “My character brings in moments of lightness and comic relief. I’m so glad I was considered for this part — it gave me the chance to reconnect with my craft and relive the magic of being on set.” Helen further spoke about working with Karisma Kapoor and Soni Razdan in the series. “Working with Soni and Karisma was an absolute pleasure. I’ve known them both for years, and sharing the screen with them felt so natural and full of warmth.”

Apart from Helen’s return, Brown will also see singer Shaan stepping into the world of OTT acting for the first time. Sharing his experience of working on the series, Shaan said, “I feel truly fortunate to have been a small part of Brown. While music has always been my primary space, getting the opportunity to step in front of the camera was genuinely exciting and refreshing for me. It’s a sweet, understated role, but one that adds an emotional layer to the story, and I truly enjoyed bringing it to life.”

He also praised co-star Karisma Kapoor and reflected on the show’s Kolkata setting. “Additionally, working alongside Karisma Kapoor was an absolute pleasure—she’s such a natural performer and brings incredible depth to every scene, which makes sharing screen space with her effortless and rewarding. What also made this project especially close to my heart is its setting. The show is rooted in Kolkata and beautifully captures its unique cultural and emotional landscape.”

Brown is set to premiere on Hindi ZEE5 soon. The series stars Karisma Kapoor in the lead role and is directed by Abhinay Deo, known for projects across thriller and drama genres.
