Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) has made a big decision in Coronation Street.

It comes after daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) suffered two strokes in yesterday’s instalment. The storyline will explore the devastating, life-altering reality of a non-fatal strangulation on the character.
Speaking of the story arc, Kate Brooks, producer said: “Coronation Street has always pushed boundaries when it comes to telling challenging, thought-provoking stories, and this story is no exception.
“Shining a light on the dangers of this all too common trend, we wanted to chart Betsy and Dylan’s story as they navigate the catastrophic implications of a moment of naivety, and the impact not only on them, but also on their families and the wider community.
“By consulting extensively with IFAS, the Stroke Association and Safeline, we aimed to handle Betsy’s journey with the care and sensitivity it deserves while sparking a difficult and somewhat contentious conversation that helps raise awareness of the risks involved in partaking in such acts.”

Betsy was rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed that she’d suffered a stroke as a result of a blood clot that had formed following artery damage in her neck and a temporary loss of circulation. Soon after, she suffered another stroke, and questions began to be asked about how the incident happened.
Embarrassed and vulnerable, Betsy admitted that boyfriend Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) strangled her during consensual sex – both believing that the pressure applied was minimal.
A furious Lisa screamed at Dylan in the hospital corridor, ordering him to leave.
Betsy has been left with limited speech, though at the start of today’s episode, she pleaded with her mum not to blame Dylan for what he did. Lisa was adamant that she would be going to the police, and that he’d pay for what he did to her only child.
The doctor explained that the stroke caused aphasia and dysarthria, though they were hopeful that she’d make a full recovery.
Back in Weatherfield, Dylan’s dad Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) suggested that they go together to visit Betsy. The teen was quick to shut the conversation down, though chose not to divulge why.

Sean eventually learnt the truth when he bumped into Lisa in the caff. She was enraged, and blurted out that Dylan had assaulted Betsy during sex.
The residents watched on, shell-shocked, and Dylan rushed out of the door in shame.
Breaking down in tears, he admitted to strangling Betsy, but assured Sean that it was entirely consensual.
Despite Betsy’s earlier wishes, Lisa made her way to the police station and told the desk sergeant that she’d like to report a crime.
How will Betsy react when she learns what her mum has done?
