President Donald Trump slammed ABC and NBC after the networks refused to air his primetime address. Earlier today, the two networks announced that they would keep the speech off their primary news channels, moving it to their respective streaming platforms, ABC News Live and NBC News Now. CNN also didn’t carry the address and made it available on CNN.com.

Donald Trump targets ABC and NBC after they declined to air his primetime address
During the 25-minute speech, which began at 9 p.m. ET, Trump claimed that NBC and ABC were involved in a “plot” and that they wanted “to continue this fraud for whatever reason” (via Deadline). He added, “They want to keep it going. They want to protect the radical left. They can’t have a great country, and that’s true. You can’t have a great country without free and fair elections” (via Deadline).
Trump then said NBC and ABC should lose their broadcasting licenses. “Fraud like this should mean a revocation of their licenses,” he argued. “They use our public multi-billion-dollar-in-value airwaves for absolutely no money. They pay nothing. All we want is honesty in our elections and honesty in reporting.”
Unlike NBC News, ABC News, and CNN, CBS News broadcast the speech. Anchor Tony Dokoupil explained the decision to CBS viewers. “This speech will be made. It will be news. And it is our job to cover the news,” Dokoupil said.
Trump’s speech largely focused on reportedly unsubstantiated claims that China had gained access to U.S. voter registration data and that the so-called “deep state” had concealed the information from him. According to Deadline, Trump’s claims about NBC and ABC lacked evidence.
Notably, Trump’s comments come after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) instructed the early renewal of broadcast licenses for eight local stations owned and operated by ABC. The network has since disputed the directive, calling it an “extraordinary demonstration of power and coercion.”
