The David Dhawan Film Festival is going on in PVR and to celebrate the legendary director, the multiplex chain organized a fireside chat. It involved David Dhawan talking about his life and films with his son, Varun Dhawan. Incidentally, both are also gearing up for the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The comic caper will arrive in cinemas on June 5. David was his usual self and raised laughs while sharing anecdotes.

David Dhawan reveals, “Kalank’s debacle depressed me; Sanjay Dutt was upset during the film. I asked him, ‘Tu kyun kiya yeh picture? Madhuri Dixit thi isliye?’”
Varun Dhawan said, “When I had my first flop, which happened after a couple of hits, it shook me very badly. I wondered, yeh kaise ho gaya, kyun ho gaya? This is because I had a row of hits. My father always told me that it is the law of averages.”
David Dhawan admitted, “There’s one film of his that didn’t work and it depressed me. It was a very big film. Karan Johar must have sold his last shirt to make that movie! That film was Kalank (2019).”
David raised laughs as he revealed, “I asked Sanjay Dutt, ‘Tu kyun kiya yeh picture? Madhuri Dixit thi isliye?’. Sanju was very upset during that film.”
Varun added, “A lot of hard work was put into that film. It was the hardest we have worked on a film. Hence, we wondered why it didn’t work.”
David Dhawan also stated, “I went to see Varun’s first film (Student Of The Year; 2012). I remember he was feeling a bit nervous. But when I saw the climax of the film, I told him, ‘You’ve done very well’. Then, at night, I got a message about him. It said, ‘Lambi race ka ghoda’. Do you know who sent it? It was Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan)!”
